Online ADHD Therapy and Counselling
How Does ADHD Therapy Work?
To work with your ADHD brain, we collaborate with you to learn your unique needs. This way we can help you better work with yourself. We always work with a compassionate and neurodivergent affirming attitude.
Our ADHD therapy sessions are unique to each person.
They often include psychoeducation, skills building, and creative exploration. In sessions we also use CBT techniques (but no worksheets!) and emotional regulation techniques.
Who do you see?
We see people from all over the world, however most of our online clients come from Alberta or B.C. Cammi is a Certified Canadian Counselor and a BC registered Art Therapist-which means often sessions are covered by insurance plans. In person sessions take place in the Hague, NL.
ADHD therapy sessions can involve figuring out how in the world to get that laundry done…or how to process ableist beliefs stemming from childhood. We sometimes work with art to help understand your emotions. We might also work with dreams to help understand your psyche. Often we will challenge limiting beliefs or discuss coping strategies for sensory overload. It really depends on what you and your brain need.
Some people need a few sessions, and some people find longer term therapy more beneficial. We recommend starting off with weekly or biweekly sessions, and then slowly moving to fewer sessions as therapy progresses.
What is ADHD?

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is the diagnostic label used to describe a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects many children and adults across the world. Research shows that 8 to 10% of school aged children suffer from ADHD (Harstad & Levy, 2014; Lee et al., 2011). This makes the estimated prevalence of ADHD in adults about 4 to 5%,.
ADHD is a divergence from the norm in regards to brain function. It is also a disability. Different people need different supports for ADHD, and different people have more or less severe symptoms. I (Cammi) believe that ADHDers have tons to offer the world. Unfortunately, the world (which is not built for ADHD brains) often has unrealistic expectations of us.
Symptoms We Work With in ADHD Therapy
- Losing/misplacing things
losing your keys, your phone, the remote, your essay, your last D20, that important work document… - Impulsiveness
Spending money without thinking, or buyers remorse. Going home with a stranger, or quitting your job suddenly. Overbooking yourself because everything seemed exciting at the time. Saying something you regret later. - Poor time management
Always being a bit late, and forgetting multiple appointments. Always being early. Time anxiety, and not being able to estimate how long something will take. - Rejection Sensitivity
People pleasing, and perfectionism. Feeling lonely or never feeling good enough. Feeling like you have to prove yourself all the time. Fear of losing friends, and the fear of being alone.
- Inattentiveness
Not remembering what you just read, and feeling lost in conversations. Starting to work on something only to have your focus drift to something else. Daydreaming, and forgetting what you are talking about mid-sentence. - Hyper-focus
You are in the zone. There is flow, everything is tuned into one thing that is incredibly interesting and you must know everything about it NOW. I like to call this one of the superpowers of ADHD as it can be incredibly useful; however, it can be destructive as well (e.g. if you are hyper-focusing on drawing something you might not get any work done). - Hyperactivity:
Not being able to sit still, or needing to tap your foot or fingers. Fidgeting or excessive talking. Restless legs, or fidgety toes/fingers. - Hyper-sensitivity:
Being sensitive to certain types of fabric in clothing, or being sensitive to different scents. Being very aware of loud noises, or being very sensitivity to light and to color.
What Can I Do?
Having an ADHD diagnosis can be frustrating for you and those around you. We want to help.
In our ADHD therapy sessions we work to help you feel more aligned with your ADHD brain. This way you can live the best, most authentic life possible.
Some of the things we focus on in ADHD Therapy sessions are:
Getting to know yourself, and getting to know more about being neurodivergent. Learning what works and what doesn’t work, and learning about masking. Discovering extra resources, such as coaching or support groups, and finding the right medication support or alternatives. Above all, learning to embrace who you are on your unique journey.
As a neurodivergent woman diagnosed with ADHD I empathize your struggles. I think it’s vital to find ways to celebrate your ADHD brain while acknowledging its challenges. It’s critical to learn to laugh at mistakes and to keep learning. In ADHD therapy sessions we will explore all of these ideas and more.
