I think I might Have ADHD

I Think I Might Have ADHD and I live in Edmonton…What should I do?

If you think you have ADHD and you live in Edmonton you have a few options at your disposal.

Firstly, remember that ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder. This means it is something that you struggle with at an early age, it doesn’t just show up suddenly. That being said, many people learn how to mask their adhd symptoms from an early age to fit in.

If think you might have adhd, you can start with the self-assessment offered by Talk With Frida. Talk with Frida is an online ADHD clinic that offers online diagnosis. If you are looking for a private diagnosis it is the most cost effective option that I know of at the moment.

Once you are fairly certain you fit the criteria for adhd you can book an assessment privately or through your doctor. Keep in mind that getting an adhd assessment through your doctor can take a very long time (generally they refer you to a psychiatrist). Your doctor may also offer to start you on medication before you have a diagnosis.

The ADHD Association of Greater Edmonton has a list of Psychologists who offer private assessments. They also offer free support groups and lectures.
When you are done the adhd assessment it is time to find a good therapist to help you on your adhd journey. Usually there is a lot of grief, confusion, and frustration regarding a new diagnosis. Learning to unmask and be kind to yourself as you understand your adhd brain might take a while. I recommend finding a therapist who has lived experience of adhd, either through caring for someone with adhd, or through their own personal experience of having a diagnosis. I also highly recommend finding a support group to help you build community. Lastly, it is important to educate yourself on what adhd is, and how you can best help your brain. Caddac, Chadd, and Additude are all organizations that can help you on your adhd journey.
